WHL WEEKLY VOLUME 2, number 11 Only a few days left before the deadline, and still only a few trades. Some teams, like the Agents, seem to have given up hope. Others are still looking for reinforcements before going into the playoffs. As you can see, the Weelky is still named Weekly. I received the amazing total of 0 suggestions. Does that mean that it shouldn't be changed? I once read that the only people who actually liked change were wet babies! Maybe this is true... Marc Denis is now second, and Patrick Lalime continues on his way up. The first 4 rookie tenders are products of QJMHL (Quebec Junior Major Hockey League), now World renowned for his goaltenders. But, considering the fact that I only received replies from 2 out of 5 gms, I'll drop this method, make the choices myself and if some people don't agree with my choices, then too bad for them. League Information Director Michael Hebert said that this web site, called "WHL Stuff", is not being made to replace the current league's official web site, but more as a complement to it, at least at the moment. 8- TEAMS' TIDBITS: The CORINTHIANS --------------- We're still looking to do some trading before the deadline. Will look at all offers seriously. Jason Kolsrud GM DOMINATORS The FREEZE ---------- Players on the blocks: Phil Housley Phil Bourque Rob Dimaio Paul Ysebaert Ken Sutton Pat Faloon Brian Noonan The GRUNTS ---------- Are hoping to make one last Earth-Shaking deal before the deadline, and are VERY happy after acquiring veterans Paul Coffey and Brian Bellows. Muscle-men Wendel Clark and Paul Kruse are said to be potentially part of the final deal....if it comes to pass. And the team is very optomistic about their chances when Mikael Pivonka returns to the line-up in a few more games. CAPN DAVE GRUNTS The SPARROWS ------------ Sparrows News Chicoutimi Sparrows GM Michael Hebert is very happy with his team and all the players. He said that he was not going to make any other trades before the trade deadline. The VIKINGS ----------- Viking News and Notes Heralded rookie goaltender Manny Fernandez finally made his WHL debut and backstopped the Vikings to impressive victories over the Steelcats and Fury. The 5th round draft pick was thought to be a couple of years away but has impressed and improved all year in the minors. When Jamie Storr continued to struggle the call went down to Saskatoon. If Fernandez continues to perform the Vikings could have an old-fashioned goaltending controversy on their hands. Storr is just too talented to sit on the bench. The Vikings have gone 3-1-0 since the arrival of rugged power forward Brendan Shanahan from the Vancouver Voodoo. Shanahan has managed at least a point in all 4 games and has 4 goals and 1 assist as a Viking. Shanahan is looking forward to the stretch run and a chance at the Cyber Cup. "There's alot of talented teams in this league but I don't think any one team is head and shoulders above the rest. There's alot of quality in this room and the chemistry here is great. I think we have a real shot at it." Alezei Zhamnov needs 5 goals to break the club record of 49 he set last season. He has 22 games to get to 50 goals. He had 49 in 74 games last season. As the trading deadline approaches GM McEwen doesn't seem to be all that anxious. "We filled our major hole with the aquisition of Shanahan. I like our team 1-20. That's not to say I won't be listening buy I'm not going to initiate anything unless we run into some sort of problems. But I don't really think that'll be the issue." Viking playoff packages have already sold out. There is a slight increase in price but the fans scooped them up immediately. Viking Press The WOLVES ---------- Wolves are planning for the next season the team is supposed to be built up around Fedorov and Fichaud. A scorer and a keeper. All other players are available for trade. NOTE! We will not give away players! /Lars Nordekvist That's all for for this week.
