WHL WEEKLY : Playoff Edition, Season 1, Second Issue In this issue, 1. Interview 2. Playoff Highlights and Records 3. Playoff Overtime Goals 4. Season Records and Stats: Season 1 Team Records 1. Interview For this second issue of the WHL Weekly Magazine Playoff Edition, The WHL Ace Reporter Jim Hauer made an interview with the GM of one of the hottest teams in the WHL right now, Marc Hebert of the Newfoundland Gangstaz. Jim: "Marc how are you today?" Fine, thank you. Jim: "You have beaten the Grunts in 4 games, did you have a special strategy against them?" Yeah, score more goals than them (laugh). No seriously, I think my team was superior. Osgood is a very good tender but really, what can he do against Mogilny, Sundin, Bure, Friesen and all the others. Fiset was also outstanding, keeping a GAA of 2.00. I also played with 7 d-men so the defense wouldn't be affected by penalties. Drake Berehowski finally got the chance to play his first game with the Gangstaz and he scored. Everybody gave me a very good effort. Jim: "Do you think all the protests and complaints affected your team?" No, not really. I won the 4 official games and lost one of the two others so the 6 games series would have been 5-1. The series would have been won in 5 instead of 4. Jim: "What about the other teams?" I don't think it changed much. The best teams won so far (my point view). Jim: "You will be facing the Mallrats in the next round. Do you think you have a good chance to beat them?" I really think we stand a good chance to win. It will be a very long and tough series and it will probably see a lot of goals. The Mallrats are a very good team but I think the Gangstaz are superior on defense and in the net. Do I need to say that Fiset will be in front of the net for this series? I don't know what our record against the Mallrats was this season since so many changes occured on both teams, I don't think it would mean much. Jim: "How do you plan to stop Mario Lemieux and Eric Lindros?" I have my idea about that but I don't want to reveal my strategy (if there really is a strategy to stop those two). After you get past the first line, I think we have more depth than the Mallrats. The two teams have very powerful first lines but my second and third lines are stronger than those of the Mallrats. Jim: "Who was the most dominant player in your team so far in the playoffs?" There were three players who offered very good performances, Alexander Mogilny, Scott Stevens, and Fiset. Fiset was very solid, while Mogilny was outstanding on offense, he's the third scorer of the playoffs and he played only 4 games (12 pts). Scott Stevens played like only he can play, providing very good offense (7 pts) and hard checking. Jim: "With Pavel Bure injured since the first game, how did you replace him?" Jeff Friesen was moved to the first line with Mogilny and Sundin while Lowry and Dawe played respectively on the second and third line and Peter Ambrosiak got the chance to play. Jim: "What do you think is the biggest surprise in the playoffs so far?" The Rapids losing 4 games straight to the Kodiaks, and the Hitmen crushing the Icetasy in 4 games also. I thought that the Rapids and the Icetasy would offer a better resistance. Jim: "Well thank you Marc and good luck!" 2.
