Sharples" Subject: WHL: Sparrows Press Release Chicoutimi(QC)- The GM of the Chicoutimi Sparrows, Mike Hebert, held a press conference yesterday. He first said: "At the end of a season, it is the time to look back and point out what was good and what was wrong with the team. First I want to announce hat left winger Kelly Miller has been voted the Sparrows Most Valuable Player for the 1995-96 season. I also have another winner to declare here today. It is for the Patrick Roy Cup, awarded to the Sparrows player who obtained the highest total of star points. As some of you know, after each of the 74 games we designed the three stars of the game (Sparrows and other team), and gave three points to the 1st star, 2 points to the 2nd star, and 1 point to the 3rd star. The first winner of the Patrick Roy Cup is ... the goaltender Felix Potvin." After the presentation of the trophy, Mike Hebert talked about the other players: "This year, we had good performances by Pierre Turgeon, Felix Potvin, Kelly Miller, Scott Lachance and Rick Tocchet. But the players who really impressed me are Tony Amonte and Martin Straka. These two wingers both had a very good season, and they weren't even on the first line. Then, there are some players whose performance is really under our expectations. Brian Leetch and Scott Niedermayer are two of them. That's why they were traded. Joe Juneau was... a deception. Really, I don't know what happened with him. He had a good season with the Huskies before coming here. Kevin Miller and Travis Green didn't play like they are capable of either. Honorable mentions go to Landon Wilson, who scored 14 goals in 41 games but maybe was a little too much aggressive (he also got 195 PIM), and to defensemen Aaron Miller, Jiri Slegr, and newly arrived Janne Laukkanen, who all are developing very well." Finally Mr. Hebert presented the new members of the coaching staff, who are coming to help Gilbert Perreault (Coach), Marc Fortier (Ass.Coach), and Steve Penney (Goaltenders Coach). "I felt I had to find other people to help the team with its weaknesses. That's whyI named Pierre Aubry, formerly of the Quebec Nordiques, as Forwards Instructor, mainly to help the team with the power play. Vincent Tremblay, former goaltender of the Toronto Maple Leafs, will assist Marc Fortier in his job. Finally, ex-Whaler Joel Quenneville will teach what he knows about defensive play to our young defensemen." "That's all for now, watch the Gangstaz in the playoffs, and see ya at the entry draft!" ***************************************************************** * Michael Hebert * * EI952325@uqac.uquebec.ca * * Internal Director of the Web Hockey League * * GM Chicoutimi Sparrows WHL Record: 26 W 41 L 7 T * * Last Place in the Patrick Division, 22nd in the League * * Coach Quebec City Knights EHL Record: 6 W 8 L 2 T * *****************************************************************
