In the first trade, defenceman John Rohloff went to the Huskies in return for veteran winger Glenn Anderson. A mere hours later, Fish star Joe Nieuwndyk was shipped, along with defenceman Philippe Boucher, to the Corinthians for winger Petr Klima, defenceman Sylvain Cote, and a 4th round draft pick. In a related trade, the Fish sent their 6th round pick to the Corinthians for Cam Hulse. With only 10 players from the original roster now playing an active role on the team, a sense of trepidation can be felt from the players. The fear of the trade has been instilled in the hearts of those remaining. "Well, if that makes them play better, that's great, but it's not the point," said Fish GM Carson Pierce. "I'm just trying to improve the team, that's all." When asked if any more trades were planned, Pierce stated that they were currently shopping their #1 goalie, Ron Hextall, around the league. "We feel confident that if we can get a decent back-up and a little more strength on the blueline, the loss of Hextall will be minimal."
