The are a lot of new faces after the Bure trade, seems like 8 new players will be dressed for the opening game. The first lien will be composed of Mogilny, Sundin, and Jeff Friesen, with Sylvain Cote and Scott Stevens at defense. Young Friesen, who did very well last season in his rookie year with 64pts while playing on the second line will have the big job of replacing Pavel Bure. The management felt that Friesen was ready to step on the first line and that is a big reason why Bure was traded. Cote, acquired from the Lunatics before the draft will support the work of the forwards well, while Stevens, even if age is starting to slow him will continue giving his 110%. The second is all new faces. Brett Hull, Keith Primeau, Patrick Poulin and Numminen and Lumme at defense. Primeau will add physical play and good checking to this team, and replace some of the leadership is lost when Messier was traded. The third line, Klima, Reichel and Kron, with d-men Shaw and Berehowski will have a more defensive role but will still be very dangerous on offense. Between the poles, Stephane Fiset will see a lot of action, like 60 to 70 games and the second tender, probably Martin Biron, acquired form the draft will play the other games. The team made an habit of trading its captains last season, by trading Messier, Yzerman... but it won't happen this season. Scott Stevens who got the C last season after Yzerman left will keep it for all the season, while Mats Sundin and Keith Primeau will assist him with the task. The coaching staff will stay the same, with Marc Hebert as head coach, and Michel Goulet and Gaston Gingras as assistants. Luc Gelinas pour Sports 30
