Roloson Fills In Admirably For Cujo
Toronto, ON - When Curtis Joseph went down for a week, the Stallions were concerned. Backup Brian Finley had already proven he was not quite ready for the WHL yet. He had been thrown in a couple years ago by a troubled Icedogs team and, while his numbers were relatively decent, he was clearly not ready then. After a 9-6 loss to the Hollywood Seawolves earlier this season, management was on the look for a replacement backup.
The search led them to Dwayne Roloson who hadn't skated in the WHL since 1998-99(WHL-4) for the Boston Agents. Sittler was clearly concerned whether or not Dwayne would be prepared to handle the starting job for the next week. All fears were put aside in his first game, a 9-4 win over the New England Dropkicks. Roloson ended up playing in 5 games (3-1-1) with a very respectable G.A.A. of 2.56 and a save percentage of .918.
Joseph's return simply continued the club's success. Each goalie played five games both had a 3-1-1 record, Cujo did it with a 1.57 G.A.A. and a .945 save percentage thanks to his shutout of the Mississauga Icedogs.
With the goaltending problem solved, management could concentrate on their offense which sits 4th in the league with 89 goals. Toronto sits 3 goals behind the Oakville Bulls and Miami Oceanics and 16 behind the Voodoo. Toronto's powerplay has picked up from the 8 goals on 47 chances in their first ten games to 11 goals in 51 chances in their last ten games. And powerplay goals against has dropped from 10 to 8.
Six of the ten upcoming games for the Stallions are against divisional rivals. It starts with the Oakville Bulls, then a home-at-home series with the Lunatics is seperated by a home-at-home series with the Icedogs. They play the Vipers before a home-at-home series against the Enforcers. This should be a challenging group of games and it is expected that Roloson will see some action in the home-at-home series.
Team Responds During Elias' Absence
Oakville, ON - The Oakville Bulls have now played ten straight games without their star winger Patrik Elias. The Bulls have made some major line-up adjustments with the absence of Elias, but still continue to win without the sniper. The Bulls went (W)7 (L)2 (T)1 in the last ten games Hackett has started nine of them continuing his excellent play as of late.
The Bulls are first in the Wales Conference, and second overall in the league. The Bulls will be hosting the Vipers, Sparrows, travelling to the Dominators, and than returning home to face the Endless in a game that will mark the return of superstar Patrik Elias to the Bulls line up.
Islanders 10 Game Report
Victoria, BC - Isles have improved on a horrific 1W 8L 1T start over the past 10 games to go 5W 4L 1T. Nothing to write home about but the fans at Waterfront Gardens have been great during the first 10 and just about ecstatic during the last 10. No big changes except Mikko Makela and a 5th rounder were sent to the Bulls for Tony Hrkac. Tony was moved up to the Isles but suffered a mild charley horse and will see limited game action until he is healthy. There's a rumour Brett Hull wants to go to a contender and the Isles will do everything possible to accomodate him.
The upward swing can best be attributable to goalie Guy Hebert who has redeemed himself well. Guy acknowledged he felt good getting back into the flow but said any accolades should go the team because it was everyone's effort. Once again Petr Nedved has been playing solid as the team's number 1 center. Steve Konowalchuk has been the most productive winger and after playing half the preseason and most of the first 10 games with a dislocated toe, Boris Mironov is back to his point a game routine as the teams top defenseman.
Youth Wanted...Left Wing Rocks...Battle Of Boston Continues
Boston, MA - The Boston Hawks performances so far this season have surprised a lot of GMs around the league. The franchise has been struggling for several seasons now. Just take a look at the numbers for the past four seasons.
WHL 6: 23rd 84 21 52 11 270 360 53 .315 0-9-1 13G winless

GM Peter Nilsson, who took control over the Hawks this past summer, has a lot of work to do. So lets take a look at how he's doing so far. With 20 games played the Hawks are ranked 8th in the league. That's an impressing record for a team that usually have to fight to get past .300.
HAWKS 20 11 9 0 75 66 22 .550 5-5-0 2G losing
I talked to GM Nilsson earlier this week about his thoughts on the team and on the future of the franchise.
"When you look at the Hawks results over the last 4 seasons you might think that the club should be filled with hungry young players with their future a head of them, but this isn't the case with the Hawks. The previous owners have traded away our youth for seasoned veterans that have peaked. When I took control of the team this summer I tried to bring some youth into the club, but it seems like most of the youngsters in the league are afraid to play for the Hawks. Most youngsters want to play for great clubs and win championships. We can't offer them that, Instead we can offer them a lot of time out on the ice but that doesn't seem to interest them a bit.
In the WHL7 entry draft we had three picks. With those picks I brought David Vyborny, Maxim Kuznetsov and Lance Ward to the club. Vyborny and Kuznetsov plays regularly on the pro team and Lance is one of our best prospects. I would be very surprised if he doesn't play any pro games for us this season. My point with this is that we give young players the chance to develop by giving them opportunity to play a lot.
I hope to bring more youth to this team so that we can get the average age of our playing squad under 30. Don't get me wrong, we need some of our older players to give the team stability, but we can't keep relying on them to carry the team year after year."
When you look at the Hawks team scoring so far this season one finds that the Hawks score their goals from their left wing. Just take a look at the top five scorers on the team.

The three top goal scorers on the team are playing LW!! So I guess the best way to stop the Hawks is to shut down their left wing.
Next up for the Hawks is another fight in the battle for Boston. The Dropkicks will host this one.

Voodoo Winning As GM Returns Home
Vancouver, BC (AP) - General Manager Darren Kinnaird, has finally returned home to the offices of Black Magic Entertainment, parent company of the Vancouver Voodoo. After spending months in Europe scouting for "talent" Kinnaird is back at the helm of his team. "It's good to be back and home safely. With what is happening in the world, it is comforting to be back in Canada."
Though Kinnaird has been away the Voodoo have carried on their winning ways. Currently on a 12 game winning streak and undefeated in 13 the Voodoo once again on top of the league. Led by surgence of players like Markus Naslund, Ed Jovonovski, Marian Hossa, the continued brilliance of Peter Forsberg, Paul Kariya, Niklas Lidstrom, Martin Brodeur, and the leadership of Mike Peca and coach Randy Ladouceur, Vancouver has been dominant this season. Vancouver's special teams are the best they have ever been ranking 2nd in powerplay and 3rd in penalty killing.
"Our guys came out a little slow to start, but now we are in top form. I am really pleased with our play so far," said Ladouceur.

After nearly a quarter of the season the Enforcers are piling up losses like never before. GM Strom went out publicly and blamed some of the players for lacking in work ethics and that changes would be made. Last night Radek Dvorak , Jan Hlavac and Fred Modin were shipped off and in return came Adam Deadmarsh, Valeri Bure and Todd White. King Don got a chance to talk to GM Strom about the trade.
The Interview
King Don:"Welcome Patrick!"
Strom:"Thank you King!"
King Don:"About a week ago you did something unusual. You went out to the press and made serious accusations on some players, like Dennis Pederson."
Strom:"Well I felt so upset about the way they played. Pederson is a defensive player. He has been good at it previous years. His game is about checking, working hard and keeping the own zone out of danger. This year he hasn't worked hard, he started to play some kind of fancy Gretzky hockey and didn't listen to any criticism. I've had a serious talk with all of the players and our coach to make things clear and we all agreed except Denis. He took it personal and made some non repeatable remarks about the organization. That was it. After those words he had to go. End of story."
King Don:"What about the Dropkicks trade then. Were you not satisfied with Dvorak and Hlavac who was the team leader in +/-. And Valeri Bure... well he isn't known for work ethic is he."
Strom:"Our concern was that Dvorak didn't fit in on a third line. He's a sniper and offensive player. With limited ice time he isn't effective. So he ended up trying to play defense and that isn't his game. We contacted the dropkick who also has had a horrendous season. We agreed on a swap that would benefit both teams and the involving players. Adam Deadmarsh is one of the elite all round players in the WHL in my opinion. When you talk about Deadmarsh grit, heart and talent are word that describe him well. He'll be able to lift our third line, box play and power play. To acquire Deadmarsh we had to give up talent. Jan Hlavac I can just speak positively about. However you have to give to get. Val Bure is a tremendous offensive force that need to play with other skilled players. We are convinced that Bure Briere and Kovalev will provide us with one of the most dangerous offensive threats in the WHL."
King Don:"How come you shipped off Modin without letting him prove himself. I've seen him in play in the minors and he is a true scorer."
Strom:"Fred Modin has got potential but we have many players of similar caliber so its been tough for him to prove himself here."
King Don:"At last when will you trade Pederson?"
Strom:"We are in no hurry doing so. Possibly is that we would like to get more depth at defense. I'd like to add that in Todd White we have got a perfect replacement for Denis Pederson in the near future."
King Don:"Thanks for taking your time. And good luck in the hunt for post season play."

It's positive that Briere is putting up good numbers. He has played with both Kovalev and Renberg and works equally well with both. Lets see if Val Bure can lift him even more. Behind Briere there isn't much joy. Chouinard does his job on defense, but has stopped to produce offense. Then there is a deep hole. Smolinski and Cassels are veteran players with talent and good reputation. Where Smolinski has at least kept good defense Cassels hasn't. Cass played so bad that he was even benched from the fourth line. As Pederson isn't going to play anymore games look for Connolly or Kolanos to be given a chance.

There is no doubt to the talent of Kovalev or Renberg both heading towards 40+ in goals this year. Radek Dvorak failed to fit in on the third line and was swapped for gritty Deadmarsh. Fighting for a spot on the team Ferraro seems to have secured it over Leeb and Sharifjanov. But Craig Mills who recently got a call up from the farm will get a chance to show that he belongs in the WHL. As a whole the right wing is so talented don't be surprised if GM strom might trade one of them to strengthen another position.

Top LW Hlavac out and Val Bure in. Its surprising to see GM Strom shipping off the best LW in the organization for a very streaky player like Bure. Time will tell if it was the right move to do. Hoglund is picking up the scoring pace slowly and looks much better than the first 10 games. Smirnov has been given all possibilities even to play on the first line but still needs to learn and adjust to the WHL. Look for Beranek to keep that third line spot. Smirnov will battle Moreau for the 4th line spot.

It's easy to see that there is problems in Saskatoon when you look at the defenders stats. Focht -8 and Wilkie -11 isn't nice. Even the experiment of pairing Wilkie with Tverdovsky proved to be a failure. Saskatoon can dress 4 solid WHL blue liners where Hawgood and Vishnevsky continues to impress. A trade with Boston Hawks brought in Zarly Zalapski and will be tested with Dan Focht to see if experience might cure the problem. If not look for GM Strom to shop for some proven defender. From farm Sean Brown, Bryan Marchment or J.L Grand-Pierre might get a chance.

Vikings News and Notes
Edmonton, AB - The injury bug has hit Edmonton as the Vikings have lost two defencemen in their past two games. Gary Suter (1g-10a-11pts in 19 games) will be out at least three weeks with a bad back and Dan McGillis (1g-9a-10 pts in 20 games) will be out a couple of weeks with a sore right ankle. Defencemen Drew Bannister has been recalled and will draw into the line-up immediately.
Right-winger Dan Cleary made his WHL debut earlier this week against the New England Dropkicks and scored a hat-trick to lead the Vikings to victory. He followed that up with a 1g-1a performance in a 5-2 loss to the Waterloo Lunatics to give him five points in his first two games.
Left-winger Brian Rolston has been the biggest disappointment to the club so far. The speedy winger has only two assists in the first twenty games.
Rookie Jani Rita has impressed with seven goals in the first twenty games.
The team is shopping young defenceman Mike VanRyn around the league but haven't received very much interest.

(Taking a biographical and statistical look at superstars of today and tomorrow)
This month we look at Chris Pronger from the Rocky Mountain Express
NHL History:
Chris Pronger was drafted second overall in the 1993 Entry Draft by the Hartford Whalers. He made his NHL debut that season on October 6 in a 4-3 loss to the Canadiens. One month later on November 6, Chris scored his first goal in a 5-3 loss to the Islanders. That season, Chris scored 30 points as a teenage rookie, was an All-Rookie Team defenceman and won the Whalers' Most Valuable Defenceman Award. In the shortened 1994-95 season, Chris scored 14 points in 43 games.
On July 27, 1995, Chris was traded to the St. Louis Blues for all-star forward Brendan Shanahan. In 78 games with his new team, he scored 25 points. In the playoffs, he helped the Blues come within an overtime goal of reaching the Western Conference finals. In 1996-97, Chris scored 11 goals and 35 points and paced his team with a +17 plus-minus rating. In 1997-98, he scored 36 points and won the Bud Ice Plus-Minus Award with a +47 rating. He was a Second Team All-Star and finalist (third place) for the Norris Trophy.
In 1998-99, Chris recorded 46 points, 132 hits and 119 blocked shots in 67 games. He also averaged 30:36 minutes of ice time per game and played in his first mid-season All-Star Game. At year's end, he was ranked eighth on The Hockey News' Top-50 Players list. In 1999-2000, Chris led the Blues to a Presidents' Trophy championship and a team record 51 wins and 114 points. He played in his second mid-season All-Star Game, recorded 106 hits and 185 blocked shots and led the Blues with 48 assists and a +52 rating. He also became the first defenceman since Bobby Orr (1972) to win both the Hart Trophy (league MVP) and Norris Trophy in the same year. In the playoffs, he scored seven points in seven games. At year's end, he moved up to fourth on The Hockey News' annual Top-50 NHL players list.
In 2000-01, Chris scored 39 assists and 47 points despite being limited to just 51 games. He was voted a starting defenceman for the mid-season All-Star Game but missed the game with an injury. In the playoffs, he helped his team reach the Western Conference finals before losing to the Avalanche.
Chris played junior-B hockey with the Stratford Cullitons in Ontario. In 1991-92, he joined the OHL's Peterborough Petes and scored 62 points as a major junior rookie. In ten playoff games, he scored nine points. In 1992-93, he improved to 77 points and led the Petes to a regular season championship. He played in the mid-season CHL All-Star Cup and won both the Max Kaminsky Trophy (OHL top defenceman) and Canadian Major Junior Defenceman of the Year award. In the playoffs, he scored 40 points in 21 games as the Petes captured the J. Ross Robertson Cup.
Chris first won a silver medal with Canada's Under-18 junior team at the 1991 Phoenix Cup. One year later, he won a gold medal at the Pacific Cup. He then graduated to the U-20 team and won a gold medal at the 1993 World Junior Championships.
In April 1997, Chris won a gold medal with his country's national team at the World Championships. In February 1998, he competed in the Winter Olympics at Nagano.
On March 23, 2001, Chris was named to the 2002 Canadian Olympic team.
Chris' older brother is hockey forward Sean Pronger.
WHL History:
Chris Pronger was drafted in the 6th round (137th overall) by the Whitehorse Rapids (Now the Rocky Mountain Express). Chris has never been traded in his career. Chris has missed only 16 games during his career. Chris was a part of the Surrey Strangers (Now the Rocky Mountain Express) Cyber Cup win in 1997-98 (WHL-3), and the Express' Cyber Cup win in 1999-2000 (WHL-5).
Chris played in his first All-Star game last year. He played for Team Canada in the 1998 Nagano Olympic games scoring 7 points in 10 games for his country. Chris was named to Team Canada again for the games in Salt Lake City next year.

(Transcripts of interviews with General Managers from around the W.H.L.)
This week we talked with Jon Lemoine from the Mississauga Icedogs
We are speaking this week with Jon Lemoine of the Mississauga Icedogs. Jon has been a general manager in the WHL for three, going on four, years and was an assistant general manager with the Surrey Strangers for a year prior to that. Known around the league as "Trader Jon" because of his penchant for making deals, he has transformed a former Presidents Cup winning team into a contender only to tear it apart and rebuild once again.
Jon has traded every original player from the club except Tim Taylor and is best known for building a cup contending team last year only to tear it apart at the trading deadline. That maneuver hung two-time Norris Trophy winner Raymond Bourque out to dry. Here's the overview of what happened: The Icedogs, having a fairly competitive team, went out a picked up veteran talent. They were a seriously competitive team but after the deadline past they were merely average but with a great many picks.
Raymond Bourque was furious. He had agreed to waive a no-trade clause with the Rocky Mountain Express to come to Mississauga with the intention of winning his second Cyber Cup. After the deadline he simply played out the remainder of the season. He was a non-factor in the playoffs, scoring 7 points in 9 games, not bad numbers, but not Bourque numbers.
We talk now with Jon Lemoine from Mississauga, Ontario:
YSI: "Jon, welcome and thank you for joining us. What do you say to statements you ruined the ending of a great career for Raymond Bourque?"
Jon: "Well I talked to Ray at the trade deadline before I made any deals. He was ok with everything. He understood that the team was getting really old and that we didn't want to look like the Stallions and the retirement home they are running. Ray is still a part of the organization, he's one of our assistant coaches. Ray is also what I consider to be a big part of the Icedogs future."
YSI: "That retirement home you're speaking of swept your team in last years playoffs."
Jon: "Well they may have swept my team, but look at my team we weren't looking to good after the deadline. Anyways numbnuts what happened to the Stallions after they swept us? Did they win the Cyber Cup?"
YSI: "No need to go name calling. Your team is floundering. You sit last in the league. Your top scorer is an unknown rookie and your current outlook is bleak. Is there a plan in all this? With your own and the Raiders 1st round picks in next years draft, are you looking for the top draft pick?"
Jon: "Well obviously the Icedogs aren't very competitive right now. I'm actually very proud of the guys right now as they are really working hard. They all understand what an opportunity they have to play against the best in the world and they are learning a lot from this experience. Ruslan our leading scorer really struggled early but he has really picked up his game since we changed up the lines. Ruslan, we are hoping, will continue to develop and be a big part of our future. As for our short term goal for Ruslan, obviously we'd like to see him keep up with what he's doing and maybe win the Calder Trophy. Obviously with those 2 picks they are gonna be pretty early in the draft and there are a few prospects we are looking at as well as some older guys in there 20's. Jay Bouwmeester, Rick Nash, Kari Lehtonen, Vladislav Evseev and Marian Havel are some guys that we have been really scouting. As of right now if we had the first pick overall and the draft was tomorrow we be picking Bouwmeester."
YSI: "Your team has a fair number of prospects on it. Do you intend on waiting for them to mature, or is there a plan to move some of them out for veteran talent to become competitive quicker?"
Jon: "Well I am known as Trader Jon, but I will be waiting it out. When my management team and I decided after the playoffs that we were going to do this it was something that we all agreed to being 100% committed to. Once we are competitive again and at a point that I think we have a real shot at a Cyber Cup then I will consider dealing prospects for veterans. However that won't be for a while so you will be seeing a lot of the youngs guys for a long time."
YSI: "We have a comment from the longest serving player on the team, Tim Taylor; 'Larsson was interested in building a contender every year, while Lemoine is trying to build a long term dynasty.' How do you see it?"
Jon: "Well it's nice to contend every year and think that you have a chance. However I would rather win every year. I think that with all the young talent we are bringing in we can do this provided that we can develop them. I mean if you take a look at other sports you have the Yankees they had won like 3 world series in a row and 4 in 5 years. That's a dynasty. Look at the Braves they are continually in the show but have they won? Basically Larsson will always only be a pretender that will only do enough to keep the fans happy."
YSI: "With your teams record since your taking over being a paltry 103-127-28 and the club having a record of 103-101-17 prior to your taking it over, where do you get off attacking Andreas Larsson's approach? I mean the guy did win the Presidents Trophy!"
Jon: "What good is a Presidents Trophy? Has Andreas ever won the Cyber Cup? Like I stated earlier we want a dynasty which means we will be winning the Cyber Cup something like 4 years out of 5. Contenders are nothing. Do contenders get to sip from the Cup when it's all said and done? Do contenders get a championship ring when it's all over with? Contenders are the guys that go home at the end of the year with a shattered dream saying well there's always next year. You know just like the Stallions did last year."
YSI: "You have a habit of attacking some of the more successful general managers around the league, I mean you've taken shots at Pongratz of Rocky Mountain, Kinnaird of Vancouver and Howe of Toronto. Do you like to stir the pot or are you jealous of their success?"
Jon: "Hehe I love to stir the pot. But honestly Kinnaird is goof, he's too easy. Pongratz I respect the guy he's a good GM and he gets the job done. Right now he's doing a pretty good job of shipping out older guys and bringing in some younger talent. Klesla and Hamhuis on D those two guys are gonna be a very good pairing, I would go as far as comparing Klesla to Rob Blake when he finishes developing. Noronen in net well let's just say give it 5 years and he will potentially have one of the 5 best goalies in the league. Up front with guys like Speeza, Karlsson, and Hemsky the future looks bright. Those guys likely won't be ready for a while but they have enough left in the tank to carry them until they are ready. They also have one of the best players ever for a coach, Cam Neely. As for Howe like I said he's running a retirement home and eventually that will catch up to him. Lindros and Sakic are two of the best players in the league. Joseph is also one of the five best goaltenders in the league but it scared me when Howe invited me out to kareokee night at a local bar downtown and he and Cujo got up and started singing when two become one by the spice girls."
YSI: "You've had a very public rivalry with the Stallions, yet there is a second team in the city of Mississauga. Is there a rivalry between you two? We hear little about one, and the games have been mild affairs except for a few. You hold the lead with a record of 10-4-1, but there is no real public battle as we have seen this year in Boston."
Jon: "Well the reason there is no rivalry in Mississauga is because the fans are really only fans of one team and that is the Icedogs. With the Toronto thing that's a rivalry even right now with all the young guys on our roster they really turn it up for those games. In the preseason the guys were really fired up for the games with the Stallions. Also the fans in Mississauga really hate the Stallions fans and they should, I mean the fans of the Stallions are really delusional. I had one fan come up to me at a bar after a game in Toronto obviously the idiot didn't recognize who I was. Anyways he's wearing is damn Wendel Clark Stallions jersey from 1990 something. He says to me "...isn't Kevin Dahl the greatest defenseman of all time?". Obviously that's when I got up and left."
YSI: "Your team really turns it up for games against the Stallions? Your team lost 4-0! Anyhow, do you have any plans on moving the team out of Mississauga? Can the city handle two professional teams? Considering you have three other teams within a half our drive both east and west of you and a fourth an hours drive away."
Jon: "Well like I just said the Icedogs have all the fans in Mississauga. There was a point when we were thinking about it but we aren't even considering it right now. The city is building us a new arena that will be ready for next year. The arena is being built right on the water front down in Port Credit it's going to be the best arena in the league trust me this thing is beautiful."
YSI: "Mississauga's pain is everyone else's gain! You're involved with the Russian Olympic team, how do you see them doing this time around?"
Jon: "Well actually it's not team Russia it's the Soviet Red Army obviously you don't pay much attention to what is really going on with the WHL and the Olympics. We are going to have the best team in the tournament without a doubt. It's really unfortunate that one countries GM cried about us taking Ruslan Fedotenko as well as a couple of other players. Ruslan is really pissed now that he won't get an opportunity to play in the Olympics. We have choosen Alexei Yashin to be the Kaptain of our squad and he will lead our team to hockey dominance. Anyways that's all I'm going to say about the Red Army at the moment."
YSI: "Getting back to the WHL, who do you see getting out of your conference? And who do you see winning the Cup?"
Jon: "Well I see the Oceanics, Corinths, Sparrows, Bulls, Stallions, Lunatics should with Mario if not then they really need to make some changes within that organization. I'd also say that the Vipers and Steelcats should make it into the playoffs from the Wales conference. As for winning the Cyber Cup I'd say this year it will come down to the Oceanics and the Poopoo er Poodoo I mean Voodoo. I will take the Oceanics in 6 games over that bunch of chumps."
YSI: "Going back to your team, how long do you figure this rebuilding process will take? Do you have a definite plan or are you going to let it take its own course?"
Jon: "Plan? Of course there is a plan you moron. The plan is to kick every single teams ass in the playoffs and bring home the Cyber Cup. As for how long it will take I can't tell you, obviously we are rebuilding through prospects and that will take time but in the long run we will have one of the greatest teams ever assembled."
YSI: "Now, as always, I like to give my guest the final word; so Jon is there anything you'd like to add before we wrap this up?"
Jon: "Well isn't that nice of you 'cause we all know that no one can stand listening to your ass any longer. Well this has been another episode of You Said It. Hopefully you won't have to hear from this chump beside me again."
(Updates on the Olympic games in Salt Lake City 2002)
WHL : Olympics - Sweden
Stockholm, Sweden - No additional players have been named to the Swedish Olympic roster since the last report. Officials here in Stockholm says that the rest of squad will be made official sometime early december.
In the meantime the Swedish people are happy to see that three of the leagues top five scorers are Swedes.
Team Canada Scouting The WHL
Toronto, Canada - Team Canada's management has been scouting the WHL for the first 20 games. Some players are clearly playing themselves onto the team. Guys like Steve Yzerman are clearly making it impossible not to be selected, with 31 points in 20 games. Others like Ron Francis and Daniel Briere, both of whom are playing great so far, might simply be overlooked due to numbers. With centers Eric Lindros, Joe Sakic and Mario Lemieux already named to the team, the likelyhood of more than two more centers being named is slim.
Below is a list of players that are being scouted heavily and will be watched right up until the final date for naming players. All are at least a point-per-game, and all are playing great regardless of being on a strong or weak team.
