The Player of the Week this week was Pierre Turgeon of the Chicoutimi Sparrows.

-How much did the Dropkicks miss this guy? A goal a game and a point and a half

alongside Doug Weight who has started to look like the player the Dropkicks
though they were trading for on draft day.

Sittler under fire for Winning!

Toronto - Darryl Sittler is hearing no end of criticism for his line selections. It seems he cannot please anyone no matter how he lines the guys up. Palffy is clearly upset about being on the second line. He sends a message to the coaching staff with a six point performance against Des Moines and remains on the second line, that has to piss him off. Andrei Nikolishin has publicly requested a trade to a team that will give him ice-time since he was benched in favour of playing Todd Warriner as the third line centre. Johan Lindbom is upset that veteran Derek King has replaced him on the third line and would probably welcome a trade.

The only thing keeping Sittler from job-hunting is the fact that he is consistently winning. His first line of Lindros-Sakic-Sanderson is scoring at a phenomenal pace. Breaking that lineup would be criminal. His second line is contributing well, Palffy is scoring often and he, Richer and Heinze are a playing so well together they cannot be broken up yet. Warriner centering veterans King and Clark have not only played fantastic defensively on the third line they have scored some pretty goals including three game winners.

The past five games saw the Stallions win four and lose the other to the Vikings. Toronto had an average of 7 goals on an average of 51 shots per game! The unfortunate part is that with increased offense comes a lack of attention to defence. Toronto saw an average of 4.8 goals against on an average of 34 shots per game, way above their usual.

Toronto's upcoming schedule has a game in Saskatoon before two home/home series against the Icedogs and Lunatics. Toronto has a real opportunity to put some distance between themselves and the hated Icedogs.

Shakeup Pays Off

New England - The biggest deal the Dropkicks made this season was supposed to be the Modano trade. However, with apologies to Denny McEwen and the management and employees of Showgirls in Edmonton, the Fleury/Belfour and when he returns from injury Arvedson trade has sparked some serious results from the whole team.

Four straight wins including a very entertaining overtime win over the Gulls has coach Pat Langlois breathing a sigh of relief.

"There were rumblings heard around town that my job was in danger...and for good reason. We were pathetic and hopefully we're back on track. Having Teemu back in the fold sure helps us."

Selanne missed six games due to injury and one more to what can only be called a mistake by league commissioner Mike Hebert. Hebert booked several WHL superstars for a children's charity Kareoke competition for that night and threatened long suspensions for players that chose hockey over belting out a tune for the kids.

It should be noted that Selanne placed third with a rousing rendition of "Crazy Train".

OAKVILLE NEWS

Oakville - This week the Oakville Bulls finally broke out of a 10 game winless streak. Although nobody on the team was playing that great, defenseman Sergei Zubov was promoted to the first line. With some great puck movement Zubov created many scoring opportunities, and through the last 5 games he racked up seven points. His 6 assists have shown that if he can keep this type of production up he will remain on the first line. Sergei Zubov is the Oakville Bulls Player-of-the-Week.

The speculation surrounding the Bulls coach "good old ML"(Mario Lemieux) about possibly coming out of retirement to play for the Bulls at centre have come to an end since Mario has denied those reports.

In other news, the Bulls are rumoured to be making an announcement later this week about unhappy defenseman Scott Stevens... it is being speculated that all of the talks about Stevens being dealt will indeed be true. Rumours have it that Stevens will be traded by the end of this week. So I guess you could say that Mario's prediction about Stevens was indeed D-D-D-Definitely correct.

-Michael Landsberg reporting.
'And that's the bottom line!...here in Oakville, Ontario!'.

Nedved takes over Leadership on Yzermanless Isles

Victoria - How does a struggling franchise survive without a proven mentor like Stevie Yzerman? You hope like hell someone will pick up the pace and emerge as your Number One go-to guy. Petr Nedved has done that while playing head-to-head against the league's best. Nedved, who is better suited as one of the league's premier second line centers is pushing hard to crack the top 10 in center scoring. This is a difficult task with this years wingers vying for hands-of-stone honours. Nedved is still picking up a point-per-game and now has a respectable zero plus-minus.

Lindros.PNG
This week's spotlight is on Eric Lindros. (Call me narcissistic, I can take it!)

NHL History: Concussions, 'nuff said.

WHL History:

Eric Lindros was the first player to be drafted in the WHL. The Albany Mallrats (now Miami Oceanics) drafted him 1st overall at the WHL Inaugural Entry Draft. He spent three seasons in Albany winning the Cyber Cup in the first season. He scored 320 regular season points in 222 games with the Mallrats. He scored 76 playoff points in 51 games.

On July 9th, 1998 he was traded to the Vancouver Voodoo along with Anson Carter for Brian Leetch, Zigmund Palffy, Jason Podollan and the Voodoo's 1st round draft pick in the WHL5 Entry Draft.

Then, less than one month later he was traded to the Edmonton Vikings on August 7th, 1998 along with Mike Grier, Vlad Konstantinov, Brian Holzinger and the Voodoo's 3rd and 5th round draft picks in the WHL5 Entry Draft for Brendan Shanahan, Nicklas Lidstrom and Adam Deadmarsh.

Eric played two seasons in Edmonton scoring 189 regular season points in 155 games. He scored 20 playoff points in 14 games.

On June 19th, 2000 Eric was traded once again, this time along with Darryl Sydor, Mattias Norstrom and Future Considerations for Alexei Yashin, Roman Hamrlik, Mathieu Schneider and the Stallions' 1st and 3rd round draft picks in the WHL7 Entry Draft.

Eric has helped lead Toronto this season with 31 points in 20 games so far.

Eric has won:
        Cyber Cup (1995-96 WHL1)
        Hart Trophy (1996-97 WHL2)
        King Clancy Trophy (1996-97 WHL2)
        Art Ross Trophy (1996-97 WHL2)
        First Team All-Star (1996-97 WHL2)

Eric has appeared in four All-Star games in 1996-97 WHL2 through to 1990-2000 WHL5.

Eric played for Team Canada during the 1998 Winter Olympics.
